Sadly in spite of Covid-19 our everyday ailments, aches, pains, niggles and strains and do not go away. Some of you may have had orthopaedic operations, injuries or fractures prior to the lock down and are wondering what you should be doing to progress. You may struggle to access your GP or NHS physio during these challenging times. Your gym, golf course, sports club or swimming pool will have closed, your fitness classes will have stopped or moved online too. You may be working flat out as a key worker or attempting to set up an “office” at home as well as juggling childcare, helping elderly relatives or other vulnerable members of your community. How to access a specialist physiotherapist should not be adding to your stress levels!

I am continuing to treat many of my existing patients and taking on new patients who need help using online platforms such as Zoom (I feel this is the best one) as well as Skype, FaceTime or by telephone. All from the comfort of your own home and at a time to suit you and your commitments.

What does it involve?

Once we have booked an appointment and decided upon which platform we are to use (I can help you set this up) we are set to go.

I will take a thorough history in the same way as a face to face consultation. You will be able to ask questions at any time. I will then ask to look at the area you have the problem with including movements and other appropriate tests. You will need to wear appropriate clothing (e.g vest top, legging or shorts) and be prepared to move around.

We can then talk together about the findings and I will explain what is wrong and together we can devise a plan of action. Exercises can be demonstrated and practiced and I am able to give you feedback. You can record some or all of the consultation for reference. I can also send you further information and handouts as I have always done.

If you would like to book a virtual consultation or require more information to see if it would be suitable for you please contact me via email or phone / text 07792 570293

Review of a recent online consultation

“I recently had an arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation operation and was in desperate need for follow up physiotherapy. In light of the COVID-19 lockdown, I was unable physically visit a physiotherapy practice. As such, I arrange an online consultation with Jill over Skype.

The set up was simple via clicking on a Skype link on my laptop (which I plugged into my large screen TV) and we were quickly speaking whilst seeing each other on our screens. As a specialist in shoulder injuries, Jill was able to expertly answer my questions, advise on a rehabilitation plan and demonstrate exercises. Having the screen allowed me to practice the exercises and for Jill to fine tune my technique.

I found the session invaluable and am looking forward to the next online meeting.” GS. March 2020
